Lightweight and high‑strength
● The density of fiberglass reinforced plastic ranges from 1.5 to 2.0 g/cm³, which is only 1/4 to 1/5 that of ordinary carbon steel and about 1/3 lighter than aluminum. Yet its mechanical strength is comparable to, or even exceeds, that of carbon steel—especially its specific strength (the ratio of strength to density), which far surpasses that of metallic materials. This gives it a distinct advantage in reducing structural weight, making it ideal for applications with stringent weight requirements, such as aerospace and vehicle manufacturing.
Excellent corrosion resistance
● Fiberglass reinforced plastic exhibits excellent resistance to atmospheric conditions, water, acids, alkalis, salts, and a wide variety of solvents. Unlike metals, it does not rust; unlike wood, it does not rot. For example, fiberglass reinforced plastic made from vinyl ester resin can withstand chloride ion penetration in seawater for up to approximately 70 years—far surpassing the service life of ordinary steel. Its corrosion resistance is primarily determined by the type of resin used; for instance, vinyl ester resins and epoxy resins offer superior resistance to chemical attack.
Good physical properties
● Excellent electrical insulation: Non‑conductive, making it suitable for use in power equipment, cable trays, and other similar applications.
● Excellent thermal insulation performance: Its thermal conductivity is only 1/100 to 1/1000 that of metal, making it an outstanding thermal insulation material.
● Low water absorption and mold‑resistant with moisture protection: Suitable for humid or high‑humidity environments, such as cooling towers and bathroom components.
● Excellent microwave transmittance and non-magnetic: Suitable for special applications such as radar domes and communication facilities.

● Performance can be customized by adjusting the resin type, fiber content, layup configuration, and other “material formulations” to meet the requirements of different operating conditions. Environmental and Safety Features
● Contains no formaldehyde and meets environmental standards, making it suitable for use in home furniture.
● Flame‑retardant fiberglass reinforced plastic can be used in locations with high fire‑safety requirements, such as architectural decoration and subway facilities.
● It can form a carbonized layer at high temperatures and possesses a certain degree of ablation resistance, making it suitable for thermal protection in rockets and missiles.
